Sooty & Sweeps are a family-run business with over 40 years’ experience, and we offer chimney sweeping and chimney cleaning across Thanet, including Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Birchington-on-Sea, Westgate and Minster. Our sweeps are HETAS approved, accredited with APICS and fully insured.
We’ll give you a final quote before any work starts, and you’ll get a HETAS certificate afterwards that your home insurer will accept.
Chimneys across the Isle of Thanet
Thanet is a stretch of coast in north-east Kent, made up of seaside towns and villages that each have their own character. Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs have Georgian, Regency and Victorian terraces by the sea, and many of the bigger houses have been split into flats. Westgate has Victorian and Edwardian villas, and Birchington and Minster have more twentieth-century housing alongside older cottages. Whichever you are in, the sea wind and salt are hard on pots, cowls and the pointing around a stack, so we check those as well as the flue.
Each town has its own page with more detail. For planning questions, Thanet District Council is the place to ask.
What a Thanet sweep includes
- Visual inspection of the chimney stack, chimney pot and cowl
- Visual inspection of any appliance and installation for safety and compliance (HETAS)
- Chimney sweeping (ensuring no blockages are present)
- Smoke evacuation test of chimney flue
- Visual inspection of CO alarm
- HETAS approved certificate of Chimney Sweeping (home insurance approved)
We use dust sheets and a vacuum, so your room is left clean.
More than sweeping
If the inspection shows a problem, we can help with the fix: chimney fault finding, integrity tests, camera inspections of the flue, cowls, caps and bird guards, nest removal, chimney stack repair, flue lining and wood-burning stove installation. See our chimney sweeping, flue liner and log burner installation pages for detail.
