Chimneys around the harbour and clifftops
Ramsgate is known for its Regency and Victorian terraces around the harbour and along the clifftops, and many of them have been converted into flats. Stacks in a sea-facing, windy position wear faster than those inland, so pots, cowls and flashings are worth checking at every sweep. Where a house has been split into flats, each flat’s flue should be swept and checked separately. Parts of the town are conservation areas, so check with Thanet District Council before changing anything visible on a stack.
