Accredited Flue Lining Installers

All old brick built chimneys will eventually deteriorate which leads to them becoming worn and damaged, creating cracks and holes in the structure. Most of this damage is invisible to the naked eye. When the lining of your flue deteriorates, the particles of the gas produced by the combustion process can leak through the flue. This can cause poisonous gases to perculate (flow down) your chimney into your home, you may not even notice that your room could be filling up with deadly carbon monoxide which is just as hazardous as a faulty boiler in your home. Many older properties fail the flue integrity test, so if you have a chimney that is aged it may be worth having a flue integrity test performed on the chimney. Sooty & Sweeps supply and install quality insulated flue liners for your chimney in London and Kent.  Our high grade flue liners protect your property throughout the flue all the way to the outside terminal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of flue do I have in my chimney?

The type of chimney flue can occasionally be identified by the age of the property, although this is just a guess and a full flue inspection and site survey would be required so you could be absolutely sure. Homes and chimneys built before the 1990’s will often have open brick built chimneys, homes built after the 1990’s could possibly have a class 1 or 2 chimney. Depending on the chimney specification, you need to be certain which type of chimney you have before you have a flue installed.

Do I need to have my existing chimney lined?

This is dependent on the current condition of your chimney. We will be able to give your further advice after conducting a chimney and site survey inspection, it is unwise to simply assume that one type of flue lining will be fine just because it says it will work with a chimney from a certain time period or class. Our site survey may discover problems that are hidden from view like internal damage to the structure or blockages like birds nests. If a chimney was already been lined before this may influence or restrict your choice of stove or fireplace.

What size of chimney or flue do I need for burning solid fuel?

Burning coal or wood in an open fireplace requires a chimney or flue with a minimum internal diameter of at least 200mm (8 inches), and constructed out of suitable materials for solid fuel combustion. We would be able to advise you further after a site survey is conducted.

Does my chimney need to be swept before having a new flue installed?

Yes, it is advisable to get an existing chimney or flue swept before the installation of new flue lining or fireplace. Contact Sooty and Sweeps today and we can inform you of the best routes to take with your chimney.
